Francis Ngannou encounters first MMA promoter at MVP event

Francis Ngannou recently reunited with Stephane Chafourier, the man who promoted his first-ever MMA fights, at an MVP (Most Valuable Promotions) event in Los Angeles. The encounter was particularly meaningful given Ngannou's humble beginnings in combat sports and his subsequent rise to heavyweight prominence.

Ngannou (19-3) competed at MVP's "Rousey vs. Carano" card last weekend, where he dominated Philipe Lins and secured a first-round knockout victory. The event, held at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles, also featured Chafourier managing fighter Salahdine Parnasse, who likewise earned an impressive first-round knockout over Kenneth Cross. When Ngannou and Chafourier crossed paths backstage, it sparked a moment of reflection for the heavyweight.

Ngannou revealed that Chafourier had been instrumental in his earliest professional career, promoting his initial fights before he gained international recognition. The fighter recalled receiving no compensation for his first bout, which was conducted as a free tournament format. However, his second professional fight marked a turning point—Ngannou received 2,000 euros ($2,323), a sum that seemed life-changing at the time. The former UFC heavyweight champion remembered excitedly going to a corner and counting his earnings immediately after the victory. This backstage reunion served as a poignant reminder of Ngannou's journey from struggling newcomer to major MMA star.
