Jake Paul reacts to Scott Coker’s new MMA promotion: ‘They gonna lose all their money’

Jake Paul, founder of the MVP (Most Valuable Promotions) combat sports organization, expressed skepticism regarding Scott Coker's newly announced MMA promotion during a social media commentary. Coker announced Thursday that he will lead a new MMA company backed by $60 million in funding, marking his return to promotional leadership following his long tenure at Bellator and earlier work with Strikeforce.

Paul, who recently promoted his inaugural MMA event in California after several years of boxing promotion, took to social media to voice doubt about the venture's financial viability. Paul suggested that potential investors backing Coker's promotion should be made aware of the risks, sarcastically characterizing his comments as an attempt to help prevent financial losses. The criticism reflects Paul's perspective on the challenges of launching and sustaining a profitable fighting promotion in the modern MMA landscape.

Coker brings substantial promotion experience to the venture, having founded Strikeforce as a kickboxing promotion in 1985 and later shifting its focus to mixed martial arts in 2006. He subsequently led Bellator to become a significant competitor within the MMA industry before the promotion was sold to PFL. Despite his extensive track record, Coker's new venture will face considerable obstacles, including competition from established organizations like the UFC, PFL, and Bellator, as well as newer promotions like Paul's MVP.

Paul's dismissive commentary highlights the genuine difficulty of building a sustainable fighting promotion. The MMA landscape is dominated by well-established companies with deep financial resources and existing fighter contracts, making it challenging for new ventures to secure quality athletes and television distribution. Whether Coker's experience and $60 million backing will prove sufficient remains to be seen.
