Jose Delgado calls Jean Silva a ‘coward,’ vows to ‘put him down like a dog’

Jose Delgado (12–2) will headline the UFC's fourth Noche UFC event on September 12 at Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona, squaring off against Jean Silva (17–3). Silva was originally slated to face Yair Rodriguez before Rodriguez withdrew due to injury, prompting Delgado to step up on short notice. Ahead of the matchup, Delgado has launched a verbal assault on Silva's persona and fighting style, dismissing his opponent as inauthentic and disrespectful.

Speaking to Ariel Helwani, Delgado expressed supreme confidence, stating he expects to deliver a knockout and "break" Silva in the cage. He framed the bout as a path to title contention, noting that a victory would position him for a title shot at featherweight—specifically against the winner of UFC 333's championship bout between reigning titleholder Alexander Volkanovski and unbeaten challenger Movsar Evloev. Delgado questioned why he shouldn't capitalize on the same opportunity Silva would have inherited had he defeated Rodriguez.

Delgado's criticism extended to Silva's fighting persona itself, which often includes a mask. Calling the persona "an illusion" and "a farce," Delgado claimed Silva relies on the disguise to feel confident and lacks authenticity. "I will put him down like a dog," Delgado said, signaling his intent to dominate the fight.

Delgado enters the bout on a strong run, posting a 4–1 UFC record with recent victories over Andre Fili and Austin Bash. Silva brings a 6–1 UFC resume featuring five knockouts, with his sole setback coming against two-time title challenger Diego Lopes. The matchup carries significant stakes in a loaded featherweight division, with the winner positioned to move closer to championship gold.
