‘Hate’ of sport pushed Kyle Daukaus towards UFC resurgence
Kyle Daukaus faces a resurgent moment in the UFC after enduring a difficult first stint with the promotion. The middleweight is scheduled to face Bo Nickal (8-1) on the UFC White House card on June 14—a high-profile booking that marks a striking turnaround for a fighter who was released from the organization with a 2-4-1 record.
After his initial UFC exit, Daukaus (17-4) spent a year rebuilding with Cage Fury Fighting Championships in the tri-state area, collecting four victories and a title. A late-notice UFC return against Michel Pereira in 2025 yielded a surprise upset, followed by an impressive 50-second submission of Gerald Meerschaert that thrust him into genuine title contention.
Daukaus recently disclosed the emotional toll of his first UFC release. For several months, he struggled to remain invested in the sport—he stopped watching UFC fights, questioned whether he would continue fighting professionally, and wrestled with doubt about his future. However, he eventually resolved that returning to the UFC was his only viable path forward if he wanted to make a living in combat sports. "I kind of hated the UFC, to be honest with you, after that happened," Daukaus said in a UFC interview. "Not like hated the company in itself, but just hated the sport itself. I didn't watch any of the fights for a good three or four months... Then I told myself that if I'm gonna continue to do this, I had to get back to the UFC. There's no ifs and buts about it. This is what I'm gonna do and I'm gonna get back, and here I am." His placement on a significant card against a top prospect reflects his dramatic redemption arc.
