Morning Report: Tom Aspinall reveals biggest factor in Alex Pereira vs. Ciryl Gane UFC White House title fight, predicts winner

Tom Aspinall, the UFC's undisputed heavyweight champion, has provided his analysis of the interim title fight between Alex Pereira and Ciryl Gane at UFC White House this weekend. Though sidelined with eye injuries sustained in his October no-contest bout with Gane at UFC 321, Aspinall will closely watch the co-main event knowing he must face the winner in a title unification match.
Aspinall's primary concern centers on how Pereira's body composition and power translate at heavyweight. The Brazilian has claimed titles at middleweight and light heavyweight, becoming renowned for knockout finishing ability across multiple opponents. However, moving up significantly in weight—from roughly 185 pounds to potentially 250 pounds—presents an unprecedented challenge for a fighter with Pereira's style.
"The most interesting thing for me is when you start changing your body composition and you go up massively in weight, how does that look down the stretch in a five-round fight when you're fighting a big guy," Aspinall explained on his YouTube channel. He emphasized that while he doesn't doubt Pereira's skill or power, the scale of the jump raises legitimate questions about sustainability over 25 minutes against Gane's natural size and movement.
Aspinall also noted Pereira's relatively flatfooted fighting style, even when competing at lighter weights where he successfully engaged mobile fighters like Israel Adesanya. Against Gane's elite athleticism and footwork, this could prove problematic if Pereira struggles with the added mass. Despite the compelling matchup factors, Aspinall leans slightly toward Gane winning by points, though he acknowledges Pereira's knockout power remains a constant threat. A Pereira victory would make him the first UFC fighter to hold titles simultaneously across three weight classes.
