DWCS Season 10, Week 3 results: Bella Mir suffers biggest upset loss in Contender Series history

In one of the biggest upsets in combat sports history, Alex Apodaca defeated heavily favored Bella Mir via unanimous decision at Week 3 of Dana White's Contender Series Season 10 on Tuesday night at the UFC APEX in Las Vegas. All three judges scored the bantamweight bout 29–28 for Apodaca, handing Mir her first professional loss and securing Apodaca a UFC contract.

Mir entered as the largest betting favorite in Contender Series history, with odds reaching -4000 in some sportsbooks. The daughter of former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir, she was the first college athlete to receive an NIL sponsorship from the UFC and won the NCAA national wrestling championship at 145 pounds this year. Apodaca, however, refused to be a stepping stone. Though Mir started strong with powerful striking, Apodaca weathered the storm, stuffed takedown attempts, and gradually took control with jabs and body kicks. By the second round, Apodaca had seized momentum, pressing forward and landing consistently while Mir abandoned her wrestling game plan. In the third, Mir briefly found Apodaca's back but could not secure a finish or reverse the deficit.

Four other fighters also earned UFC contracts on the card. Nick Galanti knocked out Carlos Petruzzella in just 35 seconds with clinch strikes. Ronald Humphrey submitted Alexis Miranda via rear-naked choke at 4:03 of round one after dropping Miranda with a jab and opening a cut. Sean Clancy Jr., the 23-year-old Cage Warriors interim welterweight champion with an 8–0 record, dominated Gary Balletto across all phases before finishing him with elbows from mount in the second round. Guilherme Uriel, fighting in his second Contender Series appearance after a previous loss to eventual UFC success story Josh Hokit, submitted Mario Piazzon with a standing guillotine choke in 50 seconds.

Mir's upset loss marks a historic reversal of expectations and demonstrates that even the most dominant amateur credentials offer no guarantee inside the cage.
