Arman Tsarukyan plans to make good on pre-fight vow to Justin Gaethje
Lightweight contender Arman Tsarukyan confirmed plans to fulfill a pre-fight promise to deliver Justin Gaethje a pickup truck following Gaethje's stunning upset victory over Ilia Topuria at UFC White House.
Gaethje entered the title bout as a massive underdog but dismantled the previously undefeated champion, forcing a stoppage at the end of round four. Tsarukyan had pledged to buy Gaethje a vehicle if he defeated Topuria. "Of course," Tsarukyan said on "The Ariel Helwani Show." "I just checked what color he wants... I'm competing on July 18 in St. Louis, and after St. Louis, I'm going to bring him a truck. RAM. And RAM is the UFC's official sponsor, maybe they're gonna give me discount 15 to 20%. If they don't give me discount, it's OK. It's not that expensive." Tsarukyan solicited Gaethje's color preference via social media, and Gaethje's manager Ali Abdelaziz confirmed he would provide specifications. Tsarukyan (23-3) has been sidelined from title contention following a withdrawal from a scheduled fight with Islam Makhachev last year. Topuria claimed the vacant belt against Charles Oliveira after Makhachev moved to welterweight. With Topuria dethroned, Tsarukyan now positions himself as the frontrunner for the next lightweight title opportunity.
